Al Sawt al Hurr believes in freedom of expression and high quality journalism as catalysts for human development. These concepts are at the core of all social and political processes, and necessary preconditions for democratization. It is our vision that all Arab people will have better lives in the future. Human dignity, equality and development are enormously aided through quality information dissemination. Furthermore, access to information is a basic human right.
With its years of experience in the field, Al Sawt al Hurr contributes to the development of freedom of expression and journalistic quality in the MENA region, bringing reliable information closer to the people. Through extensive networking, training, support and other activities, we aim to widen the space for free expression in the Arab world, and to strengthen the journalistic sector in terms of quality and sustainability.
Al Sawt al Hurr has established links with media organizations, individual journalists, media support organizations and many others throughout the MENA region and worldwide. Based in Cairo, the organization has strong Arab roots. Our training programs are comprehensive, inclusive and high-end. We excel in training sequences, since we believe in their added value in comparison to stand-alone training projects.
At the core of each of al Sawt al Hurr’s activities is a system of needs assessments and deliberation: all the work we do should be and is connected to our vision and goals for the future of the Arab world. We excel in community-building and maintaining, and have a solid vision for an Arab media community of change. Al Sawt al Hurr has an excellent knowledge of the fields of journalism and media legislation throughout the region.
At Al Sawt al Hurr, we practice what we preach. This means that the goals described in our mission and vision are an integral part of our working ethic.
Equality. We believe in the equality of all human beings. In our work this means that everyone is regarded as equal, regardless of race, gender and beliefs. Collegiality is essential to our working ethics.
Professionalism. We strive for high professional standards of journalism, in which objectivity, responsibility and thoroughness are essential. This too is at the core of our practice, both internally and externally. Human development not only applies to our projects, but also to our working methods.
Transparency. Since we believe that access to information aids society, we are open towards each other and to the outside world. What we do is visible through our web portal and in our annual reports.
